Overview Of Location
The Mantanani Islands 美人鱼岛, a group of three secluded and picturesque islands, are located northwest of Kota Belud, about an hour's drive from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. A 60-minute speedboat ride from the mainland will take you to this tropical paradise, where crystal-clear waters brimming with marine life and soft, white sandy beaches shaded by coconut palms await. Whether you love snorkelling, scuba diving, or just relaxing by the shore, Mantanani offers the perfect escape for everyone.
One unique highlight of Mantanani is the chance to spot the elusive dugong, or sea cow, a gentle marine mammal that occasionally visits the islands' waters. However, seeing a dugong is a rare treat, as these shy creatures tend to avoid crowds, and their population is critically endangered. While a dugong encounter isn't guaranteed, the island's pristine beaches and vibrant underwater world are sure to leave you in awe.
For more excitement after your island trip, hop on the Kawa Kawa River Cruise. The journey lets you spot fascinating wildlife like the Proboscis Monkey while enjoying the peaceful scenery. As the day comes to an end, head to the nearby beach to witness Sabah's stunning sunset. DAY 1 Mantanani Snorkeling Day Trip
Meeting / Pick-Up Point
- 07:00 Hrs Gather at your hotel lobby for a land transfer to Riverside Jetty, Kota Belud.
Arrival
- 09:00 – 09:30 Hrs Arrive at Riverside Jetty, Kota Belud. Proceed with registration.
- 09:45 Hrs Attend the itinerary and safety briefing before heading to RIA Mantanani.
Boat Transfer
- 10:00 – 10:30 Hrs Depart by boat to RIA Mantanani, approximately a 40-minute ride (subject to sea conditions).
RIA Mantanani
- 10:40 – 11:00 Hrs Arrive at RIA Mantanani and gear up for snorkeling.
- 11:00 – 12:45 Hrs Enjoy a snorkeling session at two different sites, with 20–30 minutes at each site (weather permitting).
- 13:00 – 14:00 Hrs Return to Mantanani Island for a buffet lunch.

- Boat journey to the island may not be suitable for individuals suffering from the following ailments: heart or lung conditions, recent surgery, back or spinal surgery, back problems / injury / fracture, arthritis, osteoporosis or other similar spinal and pelvic diseases. Pregnant women are also not recommended as boat rides tend to be bumpy depending on sea conditions.
